Meaning Of 'NAMASTE'.

Namaste, Tat Tva Masi

NAMASTE!

I honour the place in you in which

the entire universe dwells.

I honour the place in you which is of love,

of truth, of light and of peace.

When you are in that place in you and

I am in that place in me, we are one.

The common greeting in Indian subcontinent and some south-east Asian countries is 'Namaste'. It is a greeting when people meet or depart. In Indian classical dance style this gesture is called Anjali Mudra. Anjali mudra is performed by pressing the palms of the hands together. The fingers are together with fingertips pointing up. The hands are pressed together firmly and evenly against the chest. This gesture is accompanies with saying 'Namaste'.

The meaning 'Namaste' is 'I bow to the divine in you'. It expresses politeness, courtesy, honor, and hospitality from one person to the other. In Hindu Culture The guest is considered as God 'Atithi Devo Bhava.'.

This concept of god inside oneself is also described as Tat Tvam Asi in  Chandogya Upanishad. It means "That art thou". In many school of philosophy 'That' refers to God and it as a whole says that 'god is in you' or 'god is you' it is not declaring that you are god but it is saying that to find god in oneself. In some philosophies it also means 'You are that what you seek.'

If in this world everyone is god then there will be no war, no differences and no borders because gods doesn't fight over little things. Someday people will understand the true meaning of this gesture and greet people with politeness coming from deep within because they know they are bowing down to the divine.
